This contest is for a free movie of your choice at a megaplex theatre with Phil and two of your friends. Tickets, snacks, and ride will be taken care of by Phil.
Here's the question. What were the five locations in which we talked about making a difference in, in the last series, "What are you going to do?" Also, what was the theme verse of this series.
You have to get it all right to win. Put your answer in the comment section. First one to answer correctly wins.

November's Contest for beer!
Review of FALL BRAWL
Well, it's the Morning after our big event and I haven't quite recovered from our big fall event of staying up all night with over 90 students this past weekend; however, though my eyes are a little droopy, I must admit it was a great time! Large inflatable bounce house, large inflatable slide, video games, climbing wall, Nick Mitchell pulling out some comedy, our praise band, and guest speaker Rod Jost, it was a complete fun time! Our parents and leaders that helped out were incredible and we made the night with only a few rug burns. Students let me know if this is something we should do again next year. ~Phil
P.S. - Special thanks to Rod on a great talk!

Dodgeball Tournament
It is with great sadness that I make this post. Our dodgeball tournament that was scheduled for the weekend of October 19-20, will not be happening. We were quite short on teams and running the tournament became unfeasible. Let us all take a moment of silence for the "Flaming Ballz Open." ...ssshhhhhh.... ... ... On the brighter side, we will see this tournament again. It will be played at Spring Fling in the spring of 2008. In it's place we will be having a youth lock in called the "Fall Brawl." Look for details in my next post.

Phil at Schools

To those of you who don't know, Phil is trying to come visit several different middles schools for lunch. He has already been to Elkridge, Fort Herriman, and South Jordan this month. He tried to go to Oquirrih Hills but ended up spending the lunch hour in the Principal's office. Hopefully, he will be hitting up the following schools: Juan Diego, Timpview, South Hills, and Crescent View. Due to the sensitivity of having a non parent adult visiting the schools, these will be the only schools Phil will be visiting for a while. If you have an interest of Phil coming to your school, sign up for ENGAGE student leadership next time there is an opportunity.

Making Movies for BLUR
We encourage our students create their own movies that we will show at youth. Once they are created, we review them and then typically show them at BLUR AM.What a movie should be like:
1) 1-3 minutes long
2) contain content that would say "it is time for announcements," "Welcome to BLUR AM," "It's time for Questions and Story," or any of the other things we see happen at youth.
3) Something cool that we might use for our talks
We love videos!
BLUR has begun! SMALL GROUPS
First week of BLUR
Our midweek meeting that we call BLUR (Believing Life's Ultimate Reality) had its yearly kick-off last night. It was a lot of fun as talked about small groups and some of the events we will be having this year. We also were able to play some games, and had a worship time led by Con Fuoco (our praise team). It was a great night!
SMALL GROUPS
I would like to take a moment and inform you of something new at BLUR.
That is our Bible Study curriculum. We are using the One-minute Bible curriculum from Doug Fields at Simply Youth Ministry in which it takes our students through a large portion of the Bible in the three years that they will attend BLUR.
What it does is it gives students a simple oppertunity to be in Bible each day. It is a minute worth of scripture a day. It may not seem like much but it is a start. It gets them involved in the WORD. Books Cost $10 (can be picked up at BLUR)
The second aspect of our Bible Study is the leader curriculum. This is what connects what the students are reading at home and puts into context of the whole Bible. The leaders will take what the students have been reading and show them where it is in their Bibles.
We believe that after three years in BLUR our students will have a pretty well established foundation in navigating through their own Bibles with the use of this form of Bible Study.

The theme of 2007-2008

We are starting a new thing this year and that is giving the year a theme. Since our vision statement is to make a difference, we figured we be more specific. So make a difference and "take control."
The theme helps us communicate a simple point both at BLUR and at BLUR AM. For example, some youth could be dealing with insecurity; we want to help guide them into taking control of that, or a guy might have an issue with taking ownership of his actions, again we want to point him in the direction of taking control of that.
We believe that if we are going to make a difference in the world around us, we're going to need to start taking control of many aspects of our lives. Catching this concept at an early age will see our students do amazing things.
So students and parents lets get ready to "take control" this year!
